Thanksgiving Weekend Fun!

Where are you going to be celebrating this fun weekend of Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving Weekend Fun!
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

Thanksgiving Weekend Fun! It is a busy time for travel. A lot of people will be trying to get home to spend time with their loved ones. If you’ll be one of the many weary travelers this year, you should visit GotoBus.com, one of the web’s leading marketplaces for affordable bus tickets, to find the route that will get you where you need to go. Thanksgiving dinner tastes great, but it tastes even better when surrounded by those closest to you!

New York

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is the most anticipated event on the holiday, and this year, marks the 89th year the parade has been running. Not only do crowds of people line the streets of Manhattan to see floats of their favorite cartoon characters, like Snoopy and Spongebob, but there will also be performances from talented marching bands, cheerleaders, dance teams, and more! This year’s parade will also feature musical performances from crowd favorites like Jordin Sparks, Prince Royce, Train, Andra Day, and Shawn Mendes. Be sure to check out the official website for the complete list! Even though thousands of people line up on the streets of Manhattan to watch the parade in person, even more people tune in on their televisions to watch from all around the US. Be sure to book tickets to New York to see this huge celebration in person before they sell out!

Boston

The very first Thanksgiving was held in the Greater Boston Area in Plymouth, MA when the Pilgrims broke bread with the Native Americans who lived in the area. Plimoth Plantation is a living museum (actors will be in costumes and acting out what life was like back then) where you can see a replica of the original community they established in 1620. We can’t think of many better ways to celebrate Thanksgiving than by reliving the history that is behind the holiday. Book bus tickets to Boston for an authentic Turkey Day experience!

Chicago

New York’s not the only major American city that hosts a parade! Chicago is another huge urban area (and it’s cleaner than NYC!) that knows the best way to get down, hosting the annual McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade. Beginning on State Street downtown, the parade runs from 8 to 11 AM. Though it’s been held since 1934, McDonald’s became the first title sponsor in 1984. The mascot is Teddy Turkey, a plump, fun-loving bird who goes around spreading holiday cheer. Hang out with Teddy by booking bus tickets to Chicago now!

Florida

The Seniors First Turkey Trot 5K has been a Thanksgiving tradition in the Orlando area for the past 25 years. It’s a race around Lake Eola to help benefit the area’s senior citizens. Participants are invited to wear Pilgrim attire or turkey costumes and race to the finish! This is definitely a great opportunity to take some pictures of people in ridiculous outfits! There are also countless theme parks in the Orlando area to help keep your family entertained. Book your bus tickets to Florida now at an unbeatable low rate!

Los Angeles

On November 29th, Los Angeles will host the Hollywood Christmas Parade. OK, we know, it’s not for Thanksgiving, but that seems a little early for Christmas, doesn’t it? This year, magician duo Penn and Teller have been selected as the Grand Marshalls for the parade, so it’s sure to be a magical experience. The parade begins at 5 PM on Hollywood Boulevard. Book your bus tickets to California now!

Detroit

After a few tough years, it finally seems like Detroit is back on the upswing. This is great news for the automotive capital of the US. You can join the local community in celebrating and show off your patriotism by joining America’s Thanksgiving Parade. It’s the second-oldest parade in the country (after Macy’s), and features similar floats. The climax of the parade is the arrival of Santa Claus, who announces the beginning of the Christmas season. Book tickets to Detroit from cities all around the around the country!

Thanksgiving Weekend Fun!

Veterans Day Happenings
Veterans Day Celebration

On Wednesday, November 11, the United States will celebrate Veterans Day, a holiday held in honor of its citizens who served in the Armed Forces. While Memorial Day in May honors those who gave their lives serving their country, Veterans Day is meant to show appreciation for those men and women who are still living. If you are not a veteran yourself, odds are that you know someone who is, whether they are a family member, a friend, a coworker, or even the barista at your local coffee shop. Veterans are all over the place, but when they’re out of uniform, there’s no way to distinguish them from regular civilians. That is why a holiday like this is so important: it gives us a chance to realize that we are surrounded by brave people who are willing to put everything on the line for the safety of our country. So, if you see someone in uniform on Wednesday, make sure to thank them! Below, we’ve included some events happening and ways to contribute in various cities across the country that will be held in honor of Veterans Day.

Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. is the number one place to go if you want to join in the festivities to honor veterans. The main event in D.C. each year is the Concert for Valor, a huge musical event held on the National Mall. The event is always able to book some of the music industry’s biggest names, but this year’s lineup is going to be something special! The performers include indie-rock duo the Black Keys; “the Boss” himself, Bruce Springsteen; former American Idol winners Carrie Underwood; Grammy and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson; Dave Grohl, former drummer of Nirvana and current lead singer of the Foo Fighters; superstar rapper Eminem; legendary thrash-metal group Metallica; and, last but not least, Rihanna, a pop sensation and fashion icon. The show starts at 7 PM and is free to attend!

Arlington National Cemetery is a beautiful area to visit at any point during the year, but on Veterans Day, there are several ceremonies held around the grounds. Among them will be the 17th annual Women’s Military Memorial Service, held in honor of the brave women who have served in the military. These days, there are many people who question whether women have a place in the military, so it’s refreshing to see these brave ladies getting the recognition they deserve!

D.C. is also filled with war memorials and monuments, and each one has a different ceremony scheduled to honor its veterans, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the United States Marine Corps Memorial.

Chicago

Soldier Field is the home of Chicago’s NFL team, the Bears. It was named in honor of the fallen soldiers in World War I. At 11 AM on Veterans Day, there will be a special ceremony at Gate 0. Then after that, head up to Navy Pier, one of the city’s most entertaining areas. There are several restaurants where you can get a delicious bite to eat, a Ferris wheel that offers an amazing view of the city’s skyline, Lake Michigan cruises that leave from the docks, and much more!

New York City

The Big Apple hosts the annual America’s Parade each Veterans Day, the largest celebration of veterans in the country. This event gets a lot of media coverage, and this year, it will be broadcast on television and live streamed on the internet, so you can watch from anywhere in the world as wave after wave of service men and women march up Fifth Avenue. There will be over 250 groups and 20,000 people marching in the parade. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10 AM near Madison Square Park, and the parade will follow at 11:25.

Los Angeles

The Battleship USS Iowa Museum is located inside a retired Navy vessel in Los Angeles Harbor. The boat itself was an important ship in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Every year, it holds a Veterans Appreciation ceremony that lasts 4 days. Beginning on November 8th, visitors will not only get the chance to honor veterans, but also learn about the history of this famous ship. There will also be a Veterans Day commemoration at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which will include live musical performances, a display of military vehicles, a flyover with real military aircraft, and more. The program begins at 11 AM.

Boston

It is a sad truth that after completing their service to the country, many veterans are unable to find jobs as civilians and end up on the streets. If you’re going to be in Beantown on the 11th, please consider volunteering at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans at 17 Court Street, where you will help serve meals to over 250 men and women who found themselves in an unfortunate position after their service. Volunteers must register with the organization ahead of time, so give the NECHV a call or visit their website to fill out the necessary form. This isn’t a once-a-year event, either: the Center does this every day, and it can always use volunteers!

These are only a small sample of the countless Veterans Day parades, ceremonies, and events that are scheduled for November 11th. Whether you live in the biggest of cities or the smallest of towns, there is sure to be an event near you, so head out and show some appreciation for these courageous veterans. And, as always, if you need to make any travel arrangements, visit GotoBus.com!

NYC Summers- Fun in The City!

New York City

New York, New York! No matter what time of year you visit this sprawling city, there will always be an endless series of events happening, but in summer, things really take off. Whether you’re rolling like a queen through Queens, chilling with the hipsters in Brooklyn, or living luxuriously in Manhattan, you’ll always be able to find free concerts, outdoor movie screenings, hip rooftop parties, and so much more.

GotoBus.com is a leading online marketplace where customers can book bus tickets, as well as hotel accommodations and more, from one convenient location. We also understand the importance of traveling on a tight budget, and we make it our goal to cater to the needs of such customers. And we just can’t get enough of NYC. We think it’s easily one of the most exciting cities in the whole world, so we’re always trying to sing its praises and convince people to visit. Below, we’ve compiled a short list of some events happening in the Big Apple over the next few months, making sure to throw in some that are totally free of charge, so you can enjoy the your vacation while still having plenty of money left over for souvenirs.

Shakespeare in the Park

There is a great deal to said about the fact that the iconic plays of William Shakespeare, who was alive about hundreds of years ago, are still performed today. They really prove that art contains a timeless power to reach people across time and cultures. Shakespeare in the Park, in its 53rd year, is held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, is free (you just have to wait in line for a ticket), and runs continuously through the summer until August 23rd. This year, the park will be putting on Cymbeline, a story about a British king and his daughter. Shakespeare in the Park could potentially offer some odd surprises and quirks to theater-goers: in the past, weather-related issues have forced performances to stop-and-start at random intervals, and occasionally, some of the park’s local wildlife have made it onstage for a cameo. Boston, another city with a vibrant theatrical community, is only a few hours away. Book your bus tickets from Boston to New York starting at $18 one way!

Central Park, New York City

Swimming & More!

If you’re getting too hot, the city has about 14 miles of beaches that are loaded with activities. Take Coney Island, for example, an iconic landmark in Brooklyn, where you will find a lively boardwalk, a thrilling amusement park, and a huge cast of interesting characters. Nearby, you can also choose to go to Brighton Beach, an area traditionally filled with Russian immigrants, and Rockaway Beach, preferred by the hip, cool, and young since the Ramones named a song after it. On the New York’s Parks Department website, you view a list of the free outdoor pools in the city. Book bus tickets from Washington DC to New York for as little as $21 one-way to escape all that heated political debate!

Jazz Age Lawn Party

Do you ever find yourself daydreaming about the “Roaring 20s,” rereading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby (or watched the Leonardo DiCaprio movie) over and over, and dressing up in your zoot-suit or flapper gown for a night of swing dancing? Or, instead, do you find that you don’t understand any of those references? Either way, you should check out this Jazz Age Lawn Party, an exciting outdoor event on Governor’s Island, scheduled for the weekend of August 15th. You’ll be able to dance the Charleston, Lindy Hop, or a bunch of other dance styles that you’ve never heard of (don’t worry: there will be people there to help teach you!). Tickets for the party start at $35. Chicago is another city with a deep history in the Prohibition Era, so this would be a great way for visitors from that area to connect to their own local history. Book your bus tickets from Chicago to New York for as little as $60 one-way.

Waterfight NYC

Ready, aim, fire! When was the last time you were in a water-gun battle? Most of you probably couldn’t remember anything more specific than “When I was a kid.” And you know what? That’s lame! Water-guns are a blast (get it?) for all ages. This is obvious to the organizers of Waterfight NYC, an annual free-for-all water-fight welcome to all. Though the exact time of this event have yet to be revealed, we know that on July 25th, a massive crowd (last year, thousands of participants unleashed their battle cries!) will gather on Central Park’s Great Lawn for this ultimate showdown, the water-gun battle to end all water-gun battles. This event is free to attend; you just need to remember to arm yourself with finest in Nerf technology. Book your bus tickets from Atlanta to New York starting at just $35 one-way.

4th of July is Only Two Weeks Away!

4th of July

Now that schools around the country are starting to let out for the summer, you may only just be realizing that the 4th of July is about 2 weeks away! Crazy, right? Summer is the time to have some fun, travel, and visit your friends and family out of town. 4th of July is a long weekend, and it’s the perfect time to do just that. Visit GotoBus.com ASAP to book your bus tickets out of town for all of the holiday festivities before they sell out! Here are some fun suggestions to check out in some of the most popular cities around the country during America’s birthday weekend:

Washington, DC

Since the 4th of July is such a patriotic holiday, we thought it would be a good idea to start in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC! And what better way to do that than with a 4th of July fireworks show? Weather permitting, the show begins at 9pm from the Reflecting Pool area of the Washington Monument, but thankfully, you will be able to be see the show throughout many areas of Washington DC and Virginia. The best viewing spots tend to fill up very quickly, so be sure to arrive early. For tips and tricks on additional viewing areas and important information on road closures, please be sure to visit the official National Park Service website.

Did you know that DC’s National Zoo has free admission? You didn’t read that wrong, we said FREE admission. We know our customers are on a budget, and visiting this historic zoo is the perfect activity to kill some time instead of your wallet! One of the oldest zoos in the United States, it’s fitting that it is housed in our nation’s capital. The National Zoo has an impressive collection of animals such as pandas, elephants, butterflies, Komodo Dragons, Bald Eagles, and much more. It was even home to the original Smokey the Bear (“Only YOU can prevent forest fires!”). For more information on the zoo’s hours and events happening throughout the summer, visit their website.

Bus tickets from New York to Washington DC start at just $21 one-way.

White House 4th of July

Boston, Massachusetts

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular is known worldwide for its annual July 4th collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This year’s festivities begin early when the gates open at 9:00AM on the 4th, though the actual concert doesn’t start until 8:30PM that evening, so please plan accordingly. This year, the featured performer along with the Boston Pops will be the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps, the third oldest drum and bugle corps in the country. This is shaping up to be another Boston Pops show to remember! If you are not a fan of big crowds or cannot make it to Boston for the ceremony, you can still catch the entire show broadcast on TV instead. For more information on Boston’s 4th of July celebrations, please visit the following website.

The Lawn on D is a new, interactive, outdoor activity area in South Boston, something with a fresh perspective for Beantown. There are always different “pop-up” events happening here, geared toward people of all ages. From adult-sized swing sets to Friday Night Flicks (FREE movie nights where they show classics like Jaws; need we say more?), the Lawn on D has something for everyone! Prices for bus tickets from New York to Boston begin at only $18 per person one- way!

Boston Pops

Chicago, Illinois

It looks like the place to be in Chicago for the 4th is the Navy Pier! Though you can see fireworks from this area twice a week, the show for Independence Day certainly promises to be an extra-special occasion. Synced to music, the fireworks will be displayed right above Lake Michigan and are scheduled to start at 9:30PM, but you will need to arrive early since a very large crowd is expected. If you would like to try something a little different and want to view the fireworks away from the crowds, be sure to check out the Navy Pier website, which also has information on taking fireworks cruises and fireworks tours!

Grant Park is a public park with more than 300 acres to explore, the perfect place to spend the day walking around or take time visiting one of its many features, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park (where Cloud Gate, a.k.a. “the bean,” is located), Buckingham Fountain, the Skating Ribbon, Petrillo Music Shell, Maggie Daley Park, and much more! To learn more about all the features included within Grant Park, visit the official website for Chicago’s Park District.

Bus tickets from New York to Chicago start at only $40 per person each way… what a great deal!

Fourth of July wouldn’t seem complete without the annual fireworks show from Macy’s, and this year isn’t any different. Starting in 1976, the famous spectacle will once again be shown over the East River. There are many spots in The Big Apple to get a good view of the show, but you might want to get an early start to snag a spot. TimeOut New York has some great suggestions on the best places to view the fireworks, so you might want to check them out!

When we think of Coney Island, the first thing that comes to mind is usually the amusement park, but not for the 4th! On this day, something wonderful happens: a crowd gathers to witness the World-Famous Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Years ago, this contest started as a joke competition between some friends. Now, thousands of people watch this event in person, and it’s even broadcast live for the nation to see – truly considered one of the more bizarre “sporting” events of our time. Check out the event’s website for more information, including pictures and videos from past years.

You can grab bus tickets from Philadelphia to New York starting at just $12 a person – wow!

New York City

Las Vegas, Nevada

The great thing about Las Vegas is that since it’s the hub of entertainment 365 days a year, it won’t be difficult to find Independence Day celebrations in the area for the long holiday weekend. The Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower will be setting off fireworks at 9:00PM, while Mandalay Bay’s celebrations not only include a fireworks display, but performances by the band 311 on July 3rd and July 4th. For more information on any of the 4th-themed events around Vegas, be sure to check out this website. Held in a large inflatable dome in the parking lot of AT&T Park – a baseball stadium that sits right on the bay where the Giants play their home games – this event mixes the best elements of a theme park (exciting rides, actors dressed as superheroes) and a comic book convention (interactive exhibits). For a few hours, you’ll get to fight alongside the Avengers, joining Earth’s mightiest heroes like Spiderman and the Incredible Hulk in a struggle with the most notorious super-villains from the Marvel Universe. If you live in the Midwest, you probably don’t want to spend too much time outside right now. That’s why winter is a perfect time to appreciate fine art. Chicago is blessed to have one of the most prestigious museums in the world, the Art Institute. Fans of classic 80’s teen comedies will remember this museum from a scene in the classic Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when the title character and his friends visit while they skip school. In addition to collections that represent various cultures from around the world – including large wings dedicated to Asian, European, and African-American art – it houses works by many painters who are considered masters of their craft, like Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet, whose iconic Water Lilies is one of the true gems in this facility. Some of the temporary exhibits currently running at the Art Institute include Byzantine-Greek mosaics, paintings from the era of Spanish colonialism in the Andes Mountains region, Islamic art, and much more. Browse the Art Institute’s website for a full list of the permanent collections, temporary exhibits, and all the other information you could need. Be sure to reserve yours soon since, since New York to Chicago bus tickets are as little as $40 one-way!

Chinese New Year is a celebration to mark the end of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year is dedicated to the goat (or ram/sheep). Each animal in the Chinese zodiac is assigned lucky directions, and East is one of those for the goat. New York City, the cultural capital of the East Coast is home to one of the largest, busiest Chinatown districts in the country, and puts on a celebration to match. Though the official date of the New Year was February 19th, the festivities last for over 2 weeks, so you can see marvelous displays of traditional paper lanterns strung above the streets. In this popular Manhattan neighborhood, you will also be able to find some of the best Chinese restaurants in the country, which will drive any foodie crazy with delight. Make Your July 4th POP!

July 4 fireworks

While many American holidays come packaged with visions of barbecues and beers with family and friends, only the Fourth of July brings to mind so clearly one word: FIREWORKS. Around the country, towns and cities will be lighting up the night sky with those festive explosives we all know and love.

In celebration of America’s birthday and the explosive fun that comes along with it, we’ve taken inventory of the firework shows in some of the largest US cities.

Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular – Boston, Massachusetts

This unique fireworks/classical music extravaganza is broadcast nationwide and has featured performances by those such as Neil Diamond and Martina McBride. This year, the show over the Charles River gets underway at 8:30pm and runs until 11:00pm. Get to the Esplanade early for a good seat, or just watch from afar in your favorite cozy spot on the river! Check out this video from last year’s spectacle:

Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Live from the Brooklyn Bridge – New York, New York

Now in its 38th year, Macy’s annual explosive celebration is everything you’d expect a New York City party to be: big, loud, and bright! This star-studded event is hosted by Nick Cannon, and features performances by Enrique Iglesias, Lionel Richie, and Ariana Grande. The event is free to attend, with more than two miles of public viewing space along the Hudson cleared specially for the event. Things kick off at 8:00pm, though it’s recommended to arrive as early as possible for the best views.

Fireworks at the Navy Pier – Chicago, Illinois

Weirdly, the city of Chicago doesn’t have an official Independence Day display. Fortunately for those in the Windy City and surrounding areas, the Navy Pier has picked up the slack and now hosts an annual show (in addition to smaller fireworks shows throughout the summer). The big event starts at 9:30pm. For a unique twist on the experience, guests may want to look into taking one of the many fireworks cruises offered for a chance to see the fireworks from the water while enjoying a drink or even dinner!

Americafest at the Rose Bowl – Pasadena, California

Southern California’s biggest celebration takes place in Pasadena, CA, about 20 minutes outside central Los Angeles. For nearly a century, the Rose Bowl has hosted an Independence Day party like no other. This year, festivities get started at 2:00pm and run through 9:30pm. There will be motorcycle stunt shows, live musical performances, and, of course, the biggest fireworks show in SoCal. Tickets to the event start at about $17 per person for general admission.

Fun on the Fourth at the Stratosphere Hotel and Casino – Las Vegas, Nevada

From the top of the tower at the Stratosphere, visitors to Las Vegas will be able to see both the hotel’s own show as well as any other fireworks shows that might be going on in Vegas. Things open up at 6:00pm, and the celebrations also feature a concert and pool party (admission for the pool party is 21+). Admission to the Tower for the show is $10 for those staying at the hotel and $28 for non-hotel-guests.

If you’re looking to get to one of the big bangs this holiday, remember to book your transportation with GotoBus.com! But book soon, as seats for this popular travel weekend are filling up quickly.

Top American St. Patrick’s Day Parades

Green Chicago River on St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick’s Day is a day celebrated throughout the world both by those of Irish descent and those who just want to have a good time. Look for the masses of green as March 17 approaches and we guarantee you will find the biggest hotspots around!

If you’re looking to go out and about this St. Patty’s, there’s nothing better than attending a parade! GotoBus is here to provide the trip ideas and information as well as transportation: in addition to letting you know the top parade spots across the U.S., we’ve also included the latest weather reports from The Weather Channel to help on the planning.

Boston, Massachusetts

Sunday, March 16, 1:00pm: Between spectators and those watching on television, this parade is seen by nearly one million people every year. The parade starts by West Broadway and Dorchester Avenue in South Boston– known as “Southie” to locals- and loops around the city. For the best map of the parade route, click here.

  • This parade is considered one of the largest in the country, and this year marks its 113th year.
  • Sunday’s weather is predicted to reach 37 degrees with wind gusts at 13 mph, so bring a coat, but don’t bundle up too much.

Chicago, Illinois

Saturday, March 15, 12:00pm: This year’s parade starts on Balbo and Columbus. For a map of the parade, view their parade website.

  • The tradition of River Dyeing has been occurring for over 40 years. According to the parade site, the coloring of the Chicago River starts at 10:00am and “can be best viewed from the East side of the bridge at Columbus Drive or upper and lower Wacker Drive between Columbus and Lake Shore Drive. This is a new location due to construction taking place this year.”
  • Saturday’s Chicago forecast appears to be partly cloudy with a high of 38 degrees, some wind, and a 10% chance of rain. Truly, we are finally headed into spring.

New York, New York

Monday, March 17, 11:00am: Approximately 250,000 march in the parade in front of an estimated crowd of 1 million. The parade route goes down 5th Avenue, starting at 44th Street and ending at 79th Street. If you cannot attend and wish to watch on TV, turn to NBC Channel 4 in New York or watch the live stream here.

  • Considered the oldest parade in the country, the NYC parade started in 1762. 2014 marks its 252nd year.
  • Monday’s weather is expected to hover around 32 degrees, with wind and a chance of rain. Stay warm and dry!

Savannah, Georgia

Monday, March 17, 10:15am: Line up along the parade route or find bleacher seating to participate in the fun! For maps of the routes and how to find the bleachers, please visit the official parade website.

  • This year is the 190th anniversary of this parade.
  • With a 30% chance of rain Monday and wind gusts around 18 mph, the weather forecast is not looking too promising. Bundle up and bring your umbrellas- we guarantee everyone will still be celebrating!

Scranton, Pennsylvania

Saturday, March 15, 11:45am: This parade has around 12,000 participants, and starts on Wyoming Avenue and Mulberry Street. For a map of the parade route, visit their website.

  • Celebrating its 52nd year, the Scranton St. Patrick’s Parade started in 1962.

Cities with a View!

We are just about halfway through winter, and if we aren’t mistaken, some of you must be getting cabin fever and needing some ideas for new adventures. Well, good news! We have done some research, and humbly submit you to our picks for the best city views from some of the most famous big-city locations! Plan a trip and see the sights as never before– from above.

Boston

Boston
Boston skyline
  • Top of the Hub doubles as a restaurant and lounge, AND it is undoubtedly Beantown’s best view of the city. Serving brunch, lunch, cocktails, and dinner, this place is constantly filled with Boston residents and tourists alike. At an astonishing 52 floors above the ritzy Back Bay neighborhood, Top of the Hub sits at the apex of the famous Prudential Tower. Voted as one of the best restaurants in Boston, the Hub also has live jazz music to add to the ambiance. They even have prix-fixe lunch menus Monday through Friday, and are available to host private events!
  • The current Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) building opened in 2006 and was the first art museum built in Boston in over a century. We won’t lie… it’s not necessarily the prettiest-looking building, but it certainly is very unique! The most notable part of the building is the glass section that juts out on top and seems to float above Boston Harbor, giving those visiting a spectacular view! Check out ICA’s website for current information on exhibits and special events. Be sure to keep up-to-date on schedules for the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series competition, where you can see divers from around the world jump (and by jump, we mean gracefully dive) from the top of the ICA building. Trust us, it’s a wonderful spectacle. One of our staff members attended this past summer, and she swears there is nothing like it! Side note: Is it summer yet?
  • Looking for an adventure that takes you a little outside the hustle and bustle? We recommend checking out Blue Hills in Milton! After a hike to the top, you can catch a spectacular view of the city from 635 feet up at Great Blue Hill Observation Tower! Open year-round, this is a great place to hike with your family and pets any time of year. Their easy color-coded trails will help you stay on the right path. We recommend picking up a map (and maple candy, yum!) from the information center if you are less familiar with the trails. You will want to make sure you stay on the loop that brings you to the Observation Tower. You can also visit the Trailside Museum with your kids for a quick educational course on nature in the area– they even have live animal demonstrations.

Chicago

Skydeck Chicago
Skydeck Chicago
  • Step out onto the Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower for a view like no other. At 1353 feet in the air, the specially-designed glass-box platform extends about 4 feet from the building. You’ve got nothing to fear- each viewing platform box has 3 layers of 1/2 inch thick glass, all mushed into 1 tempered piece for maximum safety. Have a fear of heights and want to skip stepping out in to the platform? No problem! Experience it virtually with videos to show you what the view would be like if you stood out there.
  • The Signature Room at the 95th is located on top of the John Hancock Center. This restaurant has a fantastic 360 degree view of the city. Be sure to check the dress code for each meal (listed on the restaurant’s web site) for tips on how to dress. Looking to stop by for a quick bite to eat, cocktail, or just to view the city without the full sit-down dining experience? Check out the Signature Lounge. Those under 21 are permitted to attend between the hours of 11am and 7pm with an adult or guardian; after 7pm, the Lounge is 21+ only. Don’t forget to check out its Restaurant Week fixed menu.
  • Promontory Point in Burnham Park is right on Chicago’s lakefront. Come here in the warmer months for a nice stroll around the park, to spark up one of their barbecues, or just to sit on its many rocks and take in the gorgeous city view, or swing by in the winter for a brisk stroll. Many events are also held here, including weddings. Here’s some fun facts- this view was featured in the opening credits of 90s television show Family Matters, and the (in)famous Star Wars director George Lucas had his wedding here this past summer.

New York

Empire State Building
Empire State Building
  • The Empire State Building stands at over a quarter mile above The Big Apple. The famous Observatories on the 86th and 102nd floors have been open to the public since 1931, and you are able to visit them 365 days a year! The last elevators to the top go up at 1:15 am, but if you are looking for exercise or are brave enough, you are welcome to climb its 1,872 steps to the top floor. The 37th Annual Empire State Building Run-Up on February 5th features athletes who race to the 86th floor in under 10 minutes! Wow!
  • The newly-opened Courtyard-Residence Inn Central Park now holds the title for North America’s tallest hotel! This 68 story building contains two joint hotels: 378 rooms for the Courtyard are located on floors 5 through 33, while the upper levels, 37 through 65, in the Residence Inn are for those staying 5 nights or more. Check out this fabulously edited video for a 1-minute time lapse of the hotel being built.
  • The View Restaurant and Lounge is billed as New York City’s only revolving rooftop eatery and lounge. Wine and dine 48 stories above the City that Never Sleeps. The specially-designed signature revolving floor makes a complete turn every hour, ensuring that guests see the most angles of the world-famous city. Open for Dinner seven days a week and brunch on Sundays, their extensive menu is aimed to please. Like other “restaurants with a view,” this spot has many events, including a special Valentine’s Day fixed menu, wine dinners, and their famous Mimosa Brunches. We recommend using OpenTable to make a reservation.

Washington D.C

The White House
The White House

Visit the 11th floor for an elegant and fun atmosphere that includes a direct view of the White House! Specializing in tapas, this restaurant is perfect for having a small appetizer, sharing meals with friends, and even sipping on cocktails.
  • The Washington National Cathedral sits on one of the highest points in DC and offers a 360-degree view of the city. Visit the Pilgrim Observation Gallery where, on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays, you can have a traditional English tea after taking a 1-hour Cathedral tour. On the main level of the Cathedral, you can also attend a free organ demonstration on its 10,650-pipe organ every Monday and Wednesday at 12:30pm. Though Cathedral admission is free, there is a suggested donation of $10. The Gallery’s hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and Sunday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
  • The Old Post Office Clock Tower is considered part of the Memorial Parks and National Mall, and is just about halfway between the White House and the Capitol building. Standing at 315 feet, it’s the third-tallest building in DC. Visit the observation deck for fantastic panoramic city views from 270 feet in the air, or check out the Bells of Congress located on the 10th floor.
